How do you develop a close-knit, award-winning team of loyal, highly skilled and motivated people? How do you reach the position where they’re routinely asked for by name by our clients, time and time again?

We do it by taking very good care of our people, so that they in turn take great care of our clients. Many of our total workforce of around 120 full time people, including project managers and foremen, have been with us since we started in 1990.

We make sure we look after our like-minded supply chain too – glaziers, architectural metal workers, stonemasons and upholsterers – so they perform to the same exacting standards as those that we set ourselves.


Paul Carroll Managing Director

Paul Carroll

Paul started his career in the construction industry in 1978 working for William Moss Ltd as an apprentice carpenter and joiner. He spent the mid eighties working on various projects in the north west of England before joining T B Parker & Sons in 1986 as contracts manager in the south east. In 1990, Paul co-founded Brown & Carroll with partner Steve Brown.

Paul’s expertise is in delivery. As managing director he has the prime responsibility for bringing together and focusing the company’s wide-ranging expertise to ensure the success of every project.

Steve Brown Director

Steve Brown

Steve began his career in the construction industry in 1976 as an estimator for Concept 70 Ltd. He quickly progressed to running his own department and spent the eighties setting up joinery divisions within several Essex carpentry contractors. In 1990, Steve co-founded Brown & Carroll with partner Paul Carroll.

Steve’s expertise is in design, cost and manufacturing. He acts as our clients’ point of contact for buildability, value engineering and manufacturing programmes.

Gordon Emm Director

Gordon Emm

Graduating from City of London Polytechnic/London College of Furniture in 1988, Gordon began his career as a furniture maker/joiner and project/design manager, producing bespoke furniture and joinery for domestic and commercial clients. He joined the Splinter Group in 1995 as senior project manager and design director, and then moved to Brown & Carroll in 2007 with responsibility for design and manufacture.

With extensive industry knowledge of manufacturing, materials and finishes, Gordon’s expertise is in the identification and resolution of design and production issues, project organisation and logistical planning.

Steve Perkins Director

Steve Perkins

Graduating in 1992 from Nottingham Trent University with a Quantity Surveying degree, Steve worked for four years from 1994 with Wiltshier Construction (London) Ltd before joining Interior Plc. In 2003 he joined Brown & Carroll as a director.

His expertise is in financial and programme reporting. One of his main roles is ensuring the effective communication and resolution of any cost and time issues.
